Problem: The rising cost of paving materials The two ingredients in new HMA are Asphalt Cement (AC) and crushed aggregates. The AC accounts for about 50% of the cost.
Solution: HIPAR reduces cost by up to 50% Reusing Reclaimed Asphalt Pavements (RAP) not only saves money, it also helps ensure there will be a supply of high quality paving materials available for future generations.
Problem: Pavements use less than 20% RAP Conventional methods of asphalt recycling use a cold milling process that fractures the aggregates which alters the gradation and generates up to 8% new fines (dust). This significantly reduces recyclability and limits RAP content to less than 20% in most cases. This means 80% new material must still be purchased.
Solution: HIPAR uses 80% RAP, costs 50% less Ecopave’s Multi-Stage Hot Milling process heats the pavement prior to milling. This liquefies the AC allowing the the surface to be removed without fracturing the aggregates. High performance, recycled pavements with 80% RAP content are made possible, providing cost savings are up to 50% and an 80% reduction in non-renewable paving materials.
